Winter moorings are ideal for those seeking stability and comfort during the colder months without committing to a long-term contract.
Navigating the waterways in freezing conditions isn’t just unpleasant - it’s risky. A winter mooring lets you avoid frozen canals, icy towpaths and stormy mooring spots.
All Lakeland Leisure Marinas offer a full suite of facilities, including 240v electric hook-ups, fresh water points, showers and toilet blocks, laundry rooms, secure parking, Wi-Fi, and on-site cafés, shops, and chandlery stores.
Unlike towpath moorings, our marinas are secure, gated communities with CCTV, staff on-site, and controlled access - so you can rest easy.
Over winter, our marinas become warm, welcoming communities with Christmas events, local food and drink, and friendly faces. Many of our winter moorers return year after year!
With marinas across Cheshire, Staffordshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, and the Midlands, we make it easy to stay close to family, work, or adventure.
Ready to settle in for winter? Don't wait until the frost bites - spaces fill up fast at our most popular marinas. Explore your options and secure your mooring today.
Winter moorings suit:
Whether you're travelling solo, as a couple, or with pets or family, winter moorings offer unmatched peace and practicality.
If you love your stay, why not make it last? Our annual moorers enjoy exclusive benefits, including Rewards Club membership and access to Roam Free - offering complimentary visitor moorings at all Lakeland Leisure Estates marinas.
Insulate exposed pipes and water tanks, and consider using lagging or heat tape to prevent freezing. Running your taps occasionally can also help stop them from freezing solid in sub-zero temps.
Make sure your solid fuel stove or diesel heater is well-maintained and ventilated. Have a carbon monoxide detector onboard, and keep fuel stocked up - especially in remote areas where supplies may be limited.
Winter brings damp, so invest in a dehumidifier or moisture absorbers, and ventilate regularly. Use thermal blinds and draft excluders to keep heat in and moisture out.
Bad weather can limit your movement, so keep essentials onboard - food, coal, gas, water, and warm clothing. It's also wise to keep your phone charged and torches handy in case of power cuts.
